Xi’an Taifu Simo Motor Original Carbon Brush Holder Overview

The original carbon brush holder (brush grip) of the Xi’an Taifu Simo Motor is designed to apply pressure through a spring onto the carbon brush, which maintains sliding contact with the surface of the commutator or slip ring. This ensures stable conduction of electric current between the stationary and rotating parts.

Structure and Functions

The brush holder is robustly constructed, ensuring long-term stability of the carbon brushes. It allows for easy installation and removal of the brushes within the holder, facilitating inspection or replacement. Additionally, it can adjust the exposed part of the carbon brush beneath the holder (the gap between the holder’s lower edge and the commutator or slip ring surface) to prevent wear on these components. The impact of variations in brush pressure, direction, and position on brush wear is minimized due to this adjustability.

For motors, both the brush holder and the carbon brushes are crucial components. Regardless of the quality of the carbon brushes, an unsuitable brush holder can significantly affect the motor’s performance and lifespan.

Material and Technical Specifications

The material and technical specifications of the Xi’an Taifu Simo Motor’s original carbon brush holder meet the design requirements. The design tolerances for the holder’s box hole are generally based on basic hole system fitting: radial tolerance H7, axial tolerance H11, and roughness control of the box hole surface at Ra3.2-Ra1.6. Special requirements may include adding extrusion blocks to reduce roughness to Ra0.8. Multi-hole holders are processed simultaneously with multiple broaches or push broaches to ensure coaxiality, with the non-coaxial tolerance of multi-hole holders not exceeding 0.36 mm. The parallelism and spacing tolerances of the fixing surface of the holder relative to the centerline of the holder box are A=+-0.2. The bottom surface of the holder box is perpendicular to the holder wall and fixing surface, with perpendicularity not exceeding 0.25 mm. The brush holder’s pressing fingers rotate smoothly, falling freely without dead points or sticking, and all joints are firmly riveted without the risk of disengagement. Depending on the usage environment, the surface can be treated with Ni, Zn, Cr, gold imitation plating, copper plating, chemical oxidation, or acid washing to ensure long-term use. The presence of sharp corners and burrs on the holder box should be avoided, as these defects can cause discharge phenomena in humid environments.

Maintenance and Adjustment

The pressure of the pressing fingers of new factory holders is pre-adjusted. Over time, the spring’s elasticity may fatigue and diminish, causing sparking at the brush’s bottom if the reduction is excessive. Adjust the pressure to the following requirements: for motors used in metallurgy, power generation, and cranes, the brush pressure should be between 0.15 and 0.35 kg/mm²; for traction motors, the brush pressure should be between 0.3 and 0.4 kg/mm². The pressure error of brush holders on the same motor should not exceed 10%, as this could lead to uneven current density and local overload.

Conclusion

The carbon brush holder is a vital component for maintaining stable current conduction between stationary and rotating parts in motors. Ensuring the proper design, material, and maintenance of the brush holder significantly impacts the motor’s performance and longevity.
