Using the Xi’an Taifu Simo ZSN4-280-11B DC motor as an example: “Z” represents a DC motor; “SN” indicates a cement rotary kiln; “N4” signifies the fourth series design; “280” refers to the motor’s center height (mm); “1” represents the armature core length code; “1” denotes the end cover code; and “B” indicates the presence of a compensating winding.

  • For frame sizes 315 and 355, the compensating winding is included, and the “B” designation can be omitted.
  • The numbers 1 and 2 indicate short and long end covers, respectively.

Overview of Xi’an Taifu Simo ZSN4 Series DC Motor

The Xi’an Simo ZSN4 series DC motor is a specialized product developed based on the Z4 series DC motor, tailored to the operating conditions of cement rotary kiln loads.

This series employs an octagonal structure, which optimizes the use of stator space. The stator yoke is laminated, enabling the motor to withstand pulsating currents and high rates of current change. If a three-phase fully-controlled bridge rectifier power supply is used, there is no need for an external smoothing reactor. The motor uses an F-class insulation structure, providing it with a larger capacity. Designed to meet the specific requirements of cement rotary kilns, the motor can achieve a starting torque up to 2.5 times the rated torque. The cooling system uses duct ventilation, allowing the motor to operate safely and reliably in harsh, dust-laden environments.

Performance of Xi’an Taifu Simo ZSN4 Series DC Motor

Operating Conditions: 1.1 The motor should operate within an altitude not exceeding 1000 meters. 1.2 The temperature of the cooling medium entering the motor should not exceed 40°C. 1.3 The motor is designed for continuous duty (S1). 1.4 The armature circuit and excitation of the motor are powered by a static rectified power supply, though a DC generator set can also be used.1.5 For motors cooled by duct ventilation, the airflow and air pressure should meet the requirements specified in the table below, with the air inlet located on the non-commutator side end cover of the motor.

     The motor insulation is of F-class.

The motor’s rated armature voltage is 440V, but can be derived to 400V, 220V, or other voltages according to user requirements. For constant torque speed regulation under continuous armature current conditions, the motor’s minimum speed can reach 20 rpm, while still maintaining the rated torque and smooth operation.

The motor’s rated excitation voltage is 180V, though other excitation voltages can also be derived. To ensure reliable insulation of the excitation system, a discharge resistor must be connected in parallel with the excitation winding when the excitation circuit is disconnected to prevent self-induced electromotive force. When the excitation voltage is between 180V and 220V, the value is approximately 7 times the cold-state resistance of the excitation winding. If the excitation voltage is between 320V and 370V, the value is approximately 5 times.

The efficiency values in the technical data sheet are based on the motor operating at rated power, rated voltage, and rated speed, and include excitation losses but exclude the power required by the ventilation system.

The ZSN4-225 motor does not have a compensating winding but does include a series winding.

The motor is equipped with a grounding terminal.

The performance of this series of motors meets the national standard GB755-87 “Basic Technical Requirements for Rotating Electric Machines” and the departmental standard JB6316-92 “Technical Conditions for Z4 Series DC Motors”. The motors can also be tested according to the IEC34-1 standard set by the International Electrotechnical Commission.
